We may say that attention is everything or at least that it is involved in almost everything we do.
The many qualities and forms of attention we experience shape our perception, and awareness, of the external and internal world.
Our ability to conduct and maintain our attention facilitates our capacity for self-regulation.
Trauma has direct effects on the process of maintaining attention and presence.
Where, when, and how we use our attention is key to renegotiating dissociative states and trauma.
In this workshop we will explore our own experiences with attention, and how we can help our clients to exercise their attention, in order to renegotiate dissociative patterns and traumatic memories.
We will explore three facets of dissociation:
. Returning to the body and the present moment;
. Leaving the body;
. Where we go when we leave the body and the present moment.
By experimenting on our own, and with partners, we can develop our potential for all forms of attention from the most focused to the most broad and open.
We will learn to track our own attention, and that of our clients, as we renegotiate trauma and restore our natural ability to be present on all levels.
